Flavor Flav is coming clean on his most recent meeting with Taylor Swift at the 2024 Grammy Awards ceremony four days ago. The Public Enemy rapper, 64, has been one of pop superstar’s most outspoken celebrity fans that her devoted group of fans known as Swifties have even crowned him ‘King Swiftie.’
While the Fight The Power star has showed his support for the pop superstar over the years by attending a number of her events, this past Sunday he was able to ‘get some Taylor time’, and now he’s opening up about what they talked about.
‘The discussion [at the Grammys] was about me congratulating her on all her success. And me being a big fan of hers, a big supporter of hers. Having her acknowledge that her fan base ‘Swifties’ gave me a name, ‘King Swiftie,'” Flav told People. ‘I said, “You know they call me King Switfie?” She said, “I know!” Yo, when I heard her say that, that was huge for me.’
The Roosevelt, New York native first met Swift at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music last March, and then he made a point of attending multiple shows on her Eras Tour last year. He first attended her show in Detroit in early June and then went to her concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles in August. Flav (born William Jonathan Drayton Jr.) even went to the movie premiere in Los Angeles back in October!
And then just last month, during an interview with HOT 97’s Ebro in the Morning, Flavor Flav made his first declaration that it is he who has been deemed ‘King Swiftie.’
‘Yes, I am a Swiftie,’ Flav said. ‘Not only that, but I got a new name now: ‘King Swiftie.”‘ The Harder Than You Think MC has even gone as far as to reveal that his favorite song of the Lover singer’s is Bad Blood.
‘I mean, that’s [about] everybody’s relationships, or everybody’s families, or everybody’s friendships, it’s like, you know, ‘I used to be good friends, now you did something to me, now we got bad blood, look what you’ve done!’ ” he explained. Flav shared how he had ‘always been a big fan of her music’ following his initial meeting with the Shake It Off singer-songwriter.
The legendary rapper has even been seen out at special events wearing official Taylor Swift merchandise. When he attended the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in November he rocked a 1989 (Taylor’s Version)-themed cardigan.
During a conversation with a journalist with People, Flav confessed Swift’s ability to connect with her storytelling is just one of the reasons for his fandom. He went on share how ‘every lyric that she spits out relates to life’, while chatting about the pop superstar on the red carpet of the annual event.
