Have you ever envied Elsa’s beautiful ice castle in Disney’s Frozen? Turns out, visiting a frozen palace like that in real life isn’t as impossible as it may seem. Although there are only nine in the world, ice hotels give you this option. Hôtel de Glace, located in Quebec, is the only one located in North America.
If you do want to visit this particular ice hotel, like the rest of them, you’ll be on a time crunch. For the one in Quebec, you can stay sometime between January and March. As you can imagine, hotels like this don’t last long. Rather, they’re rebuilt every single year.
Canadian Ice Hotel is Breathtakingly Beautiful
Sleeping can be a bit tricky — almost everything in the room is made of ice. Luckily, folks also get a regular room as a way to take a shower and store most of their belongings.
Then, when it comes to bedtime, staff are more than happy to help with getting a fire going on the fireplace (though this is just for aesthetics). You’ll also get a sleeping bag, a bag to hold your clothes, and instructions on how to best keep dry and warm while you sleep.
But there’s much more to do than sleep in your own personal icy suite — there’s also a Grand Hall, chapel (winter wedding, anyone?), ice slide, and an Ice Bar. Here, delicious drinks are served in glasses made of, you guessed it, ice. There’s even a hot tub. Because, let’s be honest, you’re probably going to want to warm up at some point.
The intricate architecture in this ice hotel is truly a wonder to behold. There’s so much to see and learn, in fact, that there are tours available in both French and English. I can only imagine how much more there is to learn about these fascinating structures!
