Ryan Gosling has been ‘approached by a major record label’ after being inundated with offers to launch his music career due to the success of I’m Just Ken in Barbie. The Oscar nominee, 43, lost out in the Best Supporting Actor category to Oppenheimer’s Robert Downey Jr at the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday.
But the awards season could be the start of a career shift for Ryan, The Sun reported that a major record label has expressed an interest in working with him. I’m Just Ken was nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars and reached No13 in the charts last year. It was Ryan’s second singing role after La La Land in 2016.
Amid hopes that the Canadian actor will pursue a future in music, he performed the iconic song from Barbie, which was nominated for Best Original Song, at the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles – and in a shock moment was joined by Slash.
The iconic performance saw several of the film’s other Kens – Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu and Kingsley Ben-Adir – join Ryan onstage in a pink-filled extravaganza. Ryan began the number by sitting in the audience behind his co-star and producer Margot Robbie before making his way to the stage accompanied by Mark Ronson on guitar.
‘Ryan is the real deal,’ music publicist Kat Bawden of DediKATed PR told the publication. ‘He has the voice, the looks and is really popular. ‘Because of the success of Barbie and the soundtrack, it feels like a no brainer that he should be offered a major label deal.’
In January, I’m Just Ken co-composer Mark said he hoped to work with Ryan on more music. The Barbie producer even admitted that he and the actor had talked about the possibility already. Ryan appeared ‘in great spirits’ on Saturday while rehearsing for his upcoming performance at the Oscars.
A source told People that Gosling was enjoying his time at rehearsals on Friday at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. He was ‘a total pro’ while also ‘joking around and having a great time’ with the dancers, crew and other involved in the Oscars production. They said Gosling ‘was relaxed, his spirits were high, and everyone was having fun.’
